{"id":3138,"date":"2020-03-29T08:06:59","date_gmt":"2020-03-29T08:06:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/machteret1944.org\/%d7%94%d7%a2%d7%9e%d7%95%d7%aa%d7%94\/"},"modified":"2024-04-17T14:21:29","modified_gmt":"2024-04-17T14:21:29","slug":"the-society","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/machteret1944.org\/en\/the-society\/","title":{"rendered":"The Society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Society for the Research of the History of the Zionist Youth Movement (A Magyarorsz\u00e1gi Cionista Ifj\u00fas\u00e1gi Mozgalmak T\u00f6rt\u00e9net\u00e9t Kutat\u00f3 T\u00e1rsulat)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Society for the Research of the History of the Zionist Youth Movement (A Magyarorsz\u00e1gi Cionista Ifj\u00fas\u00e1gi Mozgalmak T\u00f6rt\u00e9net\u00e9t Kutat\u00f3 T\u00e1rsulat)<\/p>\n<p>In 1984, after 40 years of silence from the various institutions, veterans of the underground Zionist Youth Resistance Movement (ZYRM) in Hungary decided to establish a body that would preserve the memory of the organization of all the halutz youth movements in Hungary (Hashomer Hatzair, Dror Habonim, Maccabi Hatzair, Bnei Akiva and Hanoar Hatzioni).<\/p>\n<p>The ZYRM members had risked their lives in operations to save Hungarian Jewry in general and their members of the movement in particular, mainly those who were living in Budapest in 1944, in the final years of WWII. The ZYRM operated in a compartmentalized, cunning manner, as an underground organization in all aspects. Its members changed their identities and worked together, in full coordination, and successfully rescued many thousands of Jews.
