Israel was one of the prominent figures in his movement. He was a spiritual leader and an underground activist. In 1944 Israel was sent to Romania where he dealt with the absorption of the fugitives from Hungary, gave them accommodation and helped them move forward on their way to Eretz Israel (Palestine). After the liberation Israel returned to Hungary. He made aliya and joined Kibbutz Kfar Hamaccabi.
