Avri was an only child. His father was a lawyer and the family was learned and assimilated. Avri was a member of \u201cHashomer Hatzair\u201d from 1939. He moved to Budapest in 1941. Within the framework of the movement Avri was a member of the \u201cHebrew Circle\u201d whose members\u2019 ambition was to speak Hebrew only. He was a highly cultivated man and possessed leadership skills. He excelled in the field of music as well. In 1942 with the arrival of refugees from Slovakia, Avri was among the firstto engage in helping them. He was caught with three comrades and sent to the Garany detention camp. Eventually there were fifteen \u201cHashomer Hatzair\u201d activists in this camp.
\nAvri made aliya in 1946 and was a member of the \u201cEhad BeMay\u201d garin within whose framework he stayed in Kibbutz Ma\u2019anit and Kibbutz Yassur. During the War of Independence he enlisted in the Hagana. He was sent to escort convoys in the North and to bring the illegal immigrants from the ships to the shore. He fought in various places in the North.
