After the Germans invaded Hungary, P\u00e9ter arrived in Budapest and joined the Zionist underground activities as an employee of the International Red Cross. As of September 1944 he dealt with the rescue of Jewish children, taking them out of the ghetto and bringing them to safe places in children\u2019s houses on Budafoki Street.
