He gave assistance to refugees arriving from Slovakia. He was caught and deported back to Slovakia but succeeded in returning to Budapest.<br \/>\nAfter the Germans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, Haim was caught again and imprisoned in the detention camp in Kistarcsa. He escaped and, in June 1944, managed to cross the border into Romania within the framework of the tiyul together with a group of friends. In Romania Haim was caught again but managed to get free.<br \/>\nIn November 1944 he arrived in Eretz Israel (Palestine).
