Amikam arrived in Budapest with his sister, Herta, as a refugee. After the Germans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, he stayed in one of the bunkers which was taken by the fascists and was imprisoned. Amikam was rescued on 25.12.1944 by comrades of the movement.
