Tova was a member of “Hashomer Hatzair” from 1939. In 1944 she illegally moved from Slovakia to Hungary. Relatives helped her obtain Hungarian citizenship documents. In January 1944 Tova met Moshe Pil (Alpan) and joined the activities of the movement in Budapest. After the Germans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, Tova changed her identity to Anna Schmidt and joined the Zionist youth movements underground. She served as a liaison person between the members of the movement, distributed forged documents, looked for accommodation for refugees, took Jewish children out of the ghetto and transferred them to children’s houses under the protection of the International Red Cross. In January 1945 Tova was rescued by the Red Army. In September 1945 she married Moshe Alpan.
She made aliya with her husband in July 1946 and joined Kibbutz Ha’ogen.
