Uri studied at the Jewish High School in Budapest. In 1938 he joined the“Hashomer Hatzair” movement. His instructors were Arie (Hunwald) Ya’ari and later David Yahin. In 1942 Uri was recruited to help members of the movement that arrived from Slovakia as refugees. He and his friends were arrested by the Hungarian secret police and sent to the Garany detention camp. Uri was released in 1943 and after the German invasion of Hungary on 19.3.1944, he took part in the underground activities as a member of the leadership. On 28.5.1944 he was caught again, taken to the Gestapo headquarters on Schwabs Hill (Svábhegy), interrogated and tortured but did not give away any information. He was transferred from one detention place to another until he was taken to the Sárvár detention camp. From there Uri was deported to Auschwitz and then to another camp after which his traces disappeared.
