At the age of fifteen, in Újpest, Gabi joined the “Dror” movement which after some time became “Dror Habonim”. As refugees started arriving from Poland and Slovakia, he was operating in Miskolc where he helped in their absorption and obtained accommodation and food for them.
After the Germans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, Gabi became an underground activist obtaining Aryan papers and distributing forged documents. He was enlisted in a forced labor unit near Budapest and, while serving there, he still distributed the forged documents to his comrades and traveled to country towns to help the Jews and convince them to escape. When it was found out that his unit was being transferred to a location far from Budapest, Gabi ran away from the forced labor camp. He crossed the border into Romania within the framework of the tiyul.
Gabi made aliya in August 1944. He stayed at the hahshara in Kfar Szold and in Kvutzat Kinneret. In 1947 he was among the settlers of Ein Zeitim.Gabi fought in the War of Independence and in 1952 settled down in Moshav Ben Ami.
