Members of the Zionist-Halutz underground youth movements in Hungary

Members of the Hungarian Zionist youth movements accounted for a small percentage of Hungarian Jewry. They were joined by many of the refugees who came mostly from Czechoslovakia and Poland. The youth movements that worked together in the underground were: Hashomer Hatzair, Hanoar Hatzioni, Dror Habonim, Maccabi Hatzair, Bnei Akiva and some members of Beitar.

Nearly a thousand mostly teenaged young men and women participated in various activities at different times of that fateful year. They worked together in the underground in complete harmony, making the conscious decision not to take up arms, but to save lives instead.

Their friends were awarded for their bravery. We have added a symbol beside their names and photos:

The Jews Rescue Jews symbol of the Committee to Recognize the Heroism of Jews who Rescued Fellow Jews During the Holocaust
The Badge of Courage from the Hungarian government
