The Society for the Research of the History of the Zionist Youth Movement (A Magyarországi Cionista Ifjúsági Mozgalmak Történetét Kutató Társulat)
In 1984, after 40 years of silence from the various institutions, veterans of the underground Zionist Youth Resistance Movement (ZYRM) in Hungary decided to establish a body that would preserve the memory of the organization of all the halutz youth movements in Hungary (Hashomer Hatzair, Dror Habonim, Maccabi Hatzair, Bnei Akiva and Hanoar Hatzioni).
The ZYRM members had risked their lives in operations to save Hungarian Jewry in general and their members of the movement in particular, mainly those who were living in Budapest in 1944, in the final years of WWII. The ZYRM operated in a compartmentalized, cunning manner, as an underground organization in all aspects. Its members changed their identities and worked together, in full coordination, and successfully rescued many thousands of Jews. The ZYRM initiated various rescue operations and took responsibility for the fate of the Jews in Budapest, when other organizations did not or could not do so.
The ZYRM fought for the sanctification of life.
The fought for life itself.
Their operations were the largest organized “rescue of Jews by Jews” during the Holocaust.
The society promotes the recognition of the actions for those young men and women, heroes of the Jewish People, who risked their lives, so that the Israeli and world publics will know of the ZYRM’s lifesaving deeds.
